Description

The Kizer Shard is a super compact folding knife, designed by Dirk Pinkerton. Featuring a Wharncliffe style blade, it offers maximum utility paired with plenty of unique style. Its 2 inch blade is made from high end N690 Blade steel. The Shard's stud allows the knife to be flicked open with the thumb. The blade deploys swiftly and locks in with a satisfying click. The deep carry pocket clip means that the Shard sits securely in the pocket which is always a welcome feature. The included lanyard hole also allows you to fit it out with a lanyard of your choice.

The shard has great grip and functionality wrapped into a compact package. Fit and finish of these knives are top notch!

Awesome little ripper

First impressions I honestly wasn't too keen about the size but I knew I wanted something small enough to fit into my pocket and not be noticeable while still being an excellent cutter and slicer for work. Also wasn't too sure about the Wharncliffe style edge

Safe to say that I love the tiny form factor & blade style!

3 finger grip on a medium sized hand, excels at finger on spine grip for easy slicing.

Typical kizer build quality, solid and razor sharp right from the box. Edge retention survived multiple cardboard box break downs and cutting thick plastic straps.

I ended up losing my kizer shard while at work due to the small form factor slipping from my pocket..

It's been over 4 days and I still can't find that yellow little bugger :(

Unfortunate that these knives are now discontinued, I would order another in a heartbeat

Very nice utility knife. For everyday carry around home or work, blade length is about perfect.
For a medium sized hand the length of handle is on the limit for one-handed opening. if the handle
were longer, say about 90mm it would work great. As it is, this knife would be a good candidate as
a flipper style. Blade is very sharp and useful design with functional jimping. Has quality micarta.
Small knife but big performance.

Simple utility

Having used the little Shard for several months, I'm happy to report that it's a great little knife.
The Shard is a three finger hammer grip for my medium-sized hands. That grip works okay but where it really shines is index-finger (spine jimping is great) and pinch grips for detail use. Cutting grass seeds from our dogs' hair feels [almost] safe, considering their proclivity to sudden movements during such tasks! The relatively steeply pointed tip is beneficial here, too. Push-cuts with your thumb on the spine work really well, too.
It holds an edge for a good while and when it dulls, strops back nicely. Speaking of. Due to the short blade height you might try starting from the tip, pushing forward & inwards while travelling along the strop - you'll be less affected by the thumbstud's. I've sharpened it once (which it didn't require) which was easily done. Though again, the short blade height required thumbstud removal.
I've given it 4 stars simply because given the low primary grind and light-duty intentions, it'd benefit from thinner blade stock - especially after a few re-grinds. For ease of maintenance I'd purchase a flipper variant in an instant, but that is really just a thinly veiled reason to try a Lieb ;)
Fit & finish are fantastic as is its operation. Mitch is a joy to deal with. He's very approachable and knows his products.
Cheers,
Kendal.

Quality in a small package

Quality little blade. Paper cutting sharp out of the box. Non confronting, almost a stocky little gentlemans EDC that is handy and capable for light tasks. Comfortable three finger grip and good jimping on the top of the blade for fine work. Fidget friendly.

Great summary of the Shard! thanks for your review, hope the shard serves you well into the future.
Cheers

Great Blade

My first Kizer knife, and I'm very pleased with it. Certainly a smaller knife, but operates quite well. Smooth snappy deployment and feels comfortable in the hand. All round good quality. It's always a pleasure dealing with Adventure Carry

Hey Chris,
Thanks for the review, glad you're pleased with the shard! Kizer make some great knives. I'm keen to see it in some of your awesome Instagram photos.
Cheers
Mitch
